Nursing Bridge

University of Phoenix offers a bridging option for RNs with an undergraduate degree in an area other than nursing who wish to earn a Master of Science in Nursing degree. (The undergraduate degree must be from a regionally or approved nationally accredited college or university.)

With the nursing bridge, students first complete the same introductory course taken by all Master of Science in Nursing students at University of Phoenix. Next, bridging students complete three bridge courses (or their equivalents) at the Bachelor of Science in Nursing level. After the introductory and bridge courses are successfully completed, bridging students can move directly into one of the Master of Science in Nursing programs below.

Bridge Courses

Theories and Models of Nursing Practice
This course is designed to focus baccalaureate students on the behaviors, attitudes and values necessary for theory-based professional nursing practice. Concepts of professional nursing are presented within the unifying framework of Jean Watson's Theory of Caring.

Evidence-Based Nursing Research and Practice
This course focuses on current review of nursing research literature and research utilization through evidence-based practice. Three areas of research competencies are examined: interpreting and use of research in nursing practice, evaluation of research, and conducting research.

Health Assessment & Promotion of Vulnerable Populations
This course is designed to assist professional nurses in developing interviewing skills, refinement of a health assessment, and preventative health interventions when working with diverse and vulnerable populations. The importance of therapeutic communication in performing a health assessment is emphasized.
