About our Criminal Justice and Security Programs

Criminal justice and security are increasingly important in today's complex world. If you are interested in these vital fields, University of Phoenix can help. We offer criminal justice and security degree programs at several levels, including bachelor's and master's degree programs through our College of Health and Human Services.

Our criminal justice and security degree programs are exciting and rigorous. They are designed to address today's challenges, as well as the need to stay current and anticipate emerging technologies and increasing responsibilities.

As a student in our criminal justice programs, you can gain an understanding of areas such as law enforcement, the courts, and community and institutional corrections. By comparison, our security programs primarily focus on safety, asset protection and the prevention of criminal activity and security problems.

For example, our Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice Administration degree program focuses on management and leadership within criminal justice and related professions, maintaining a dual emphasis on the study of crime and justice in American society. The goals and essential components of the American criminal justice system are examined, with emphasis on law enforcement, the courts, and corrections. The program also focuses on current and future trends, research methodology, and the juvenile justice system.

The Bachelor of Science in Organizational Security and Management program is designed to meet the national and international need for greater professionalism and managerial skill in the security industry. The curriculum addresses the entire spectrum of the security profession, from criminology and threat management to physical and personal security, while emphasizing the managerial skills critical to professional and organizational success. The program also includes in-depth examination of the issues of homeland security, terrorism, and global security.

The Master of Science in Administration of Justice and Security program provides students with the knowledge to administer criminal justice and security programs or organizations. With a foundation of criminological theory, the program includes such areas as critical incident management, cyber-crime, forensics and profiling, physical and personal security, and program development and evaluation. While distinctions between the roles of criminal justice and security organizations are addressed, the program emphasizes administrative responsibilities common to both disciplines.

Regardless of which program you choose, the College of Health and Human Services at University of Phoenix is dedicated to providing a quality learning environment, as well as the skills and knowledge needed in today's world.
