Nursing and Health Care Alumni Profiles

My University of Phoenix doctoral studies helped me learn to combine abstract and concrete ideas, as well as search the literature for support of my articulations. I was exposed to business and finance theories, enabling me to view the health care field from a broader perspective. I also learned from the expertise of my faculty and learning team members. It was an awakening experience. My critical thinking is now a more mature model that includes considering multiple ideas at the same time to achieve the most effective outcome.

This has been vital in my roles as an appraiser, consultant outside of my institution, and director within my institution for a prestigious program recognizing organizations that provide nursing excellence. I firmly believe that diseases and patient treatment will change. By being an effective leader and actively encouraging RNs to also become more effective leaders, I can make a difference and help the health care field meet the challenges of these changes.

My personal goal has been to earn my diploma and become a college graduate. I have started and stopped my college education several times. My career and life simply got in the way. Online learning at Axia College of University of Phoenix was an opportunity to achieve my goal. I travel weekly for the organization I work for, and previously had been unable to commit to completing my education. The ability to do homework in airports and hotel rooms and submit the assignments has allowed me the freedom and opportunity to continue my education. I now have graduated with an associate's degree and am well on my way to finishing my bachelor's degree in management.

The focus on working adult learners attracted me to University of Phoenix. The faculty members were very knowledgeable and working in teams with classmates who had varied experience was extremely helpful. As a result, I’ve developed new networking skills. Earning my master’s degree has enabled me to teach nursing full time at a community college and also provided the opportunity to teach at University of Phoenix. Due to my positive experience with the master’s degree program, I’ve enrolled in the education doctoral program at University of Phoenix.

Master of Science in Nursing

Obtaining my Master of Science in Nursing from University of Phoenix has helped me reach my goals as a nurse educator and provided the ability to advance in the nursing profession.

My experience as a student at University of Phoenix was challenging and very rewarding. I had the opportunity to network with students and faculty from a diverse population. I could interact with people I otherwise might not have been exposed to. It was great to have discussions and hear the opinions of others on current issues affecting our world today. And, I could continue to work full time and complete my education while still being available to my family and friends. University of Phoenix provided me with a challenging and up-to-date learning environment and the support network was excellent.
