At University of Phoenix, you can choose a learning mode to fit your lifestyle—whether it's attending classes through our online learning format, campus-based format or a combination of both with FlexNet®. Degree programs are offered through a variety of delivery modes to meet the needs of our mobile constituency. The same rigorous curriculum and learning outcomes assessments are applied across all modalities. Although learning formats are widely available, every option may not be offered at all locations.
Online Learning
University of Phoenix online learning is interactive and participative. Students work in Learning Teams with their classmates for special projects. Students complete one course at a time, progressing to the next course in the same way as students who meet at our on-campus classrooms.
The University of Phoenix Online Campus is an outcome of the University's recognition of the technological transformation of the workplace and the needs of the working adult student. Rather than gathering in a traditional classroom, students and instructors interact electronically and asynchronously, resulting in increased access for students by allowing them to control the time and place of their participation.
The Online Campus utilizes the Online Learning System to make group learning independent of time and location. When students log on to the Online Campus Web site, they can check their e-mail, access student services and enjoy the following features:
- Complete coursework through electronic forums. This includes a main forum where you discuss, debate and actively participate in course subjects, as well as a chat room where you can talk with classmates about any topic. In the course materials forum, you download the course syllabus, presentations or other resources. An individual forum is where you submit completed assignments, as well as access materials and notes provided specifically for you by your instructor.
- Log in and participate with your class when and where you choose. Participate three or four days each week depending upon your degree program.
- Work closely with a small number of classmates in a Learning Team if you are working toward your associate’s, bachelor's, master's or doctoral.
- Communicate online with classmates, instructors, and academic counselors.
- Access a full range of academic functions such as registering for classes, paying tuition, ordering books, requesting transcripts, obtaining grades and conducting research for class.
- Complete 100% of your educational and administrative activities online (excluding doctoral residencies, nursing clinicals and internships, and student teaching in education programs).
Campus-based Learning
University of Phoenix recognizes that students benefit from different kinds of learning formats. If you prefer on-campus learning, you can complete your degree at one of the nearly 200 University of Phoenix locations across the United States. The campus-based learning option is available in many degree programs and provides an opportunity for students to meet in person with their instructors and classmates. Students enrolled in the campus-based format:
- Attend class face-to-face for interactive, seminar-style instruction just once a week for most programs. Classes generally are held in the evening. Some campuses offer day or weekend classes.
- Work closely with a small number of classmates in a Learning Team that meets weekly outside of class to address challenges and issues faced in today's workplace.
- Gain presentation skills in face-to-face class meetings.
FlexNet® Learning Format
A combination of local campus and online learning modalities, FlexNet® is structured for students who require scheduling flexibility, but who also prefer some face-to-face class meetings.* Some campuses offer the FlexNet® format that blends online and campus-based learning.
